ABOUT THE BUFFALO BILLS
In 1959 the American Football League granted their seventh franchise to Buffalo and owner Ralph Wilson, Jr. The newly formed franchise made their debut on September 11, 1960 when they visited the Polo grounds to take on the New York Titans. A team, steep in tradition captured glory twice during the 1960's winning the AFL Championship in 1964 and 1965. Star players including Cookie Gilchrist, Jack Kemp, Hall of Famer Billy Shaw and Mike Stratton made the Bills one of the most feared teams ever to play in the American Football League. In 1970 the AFL and NFL merged to form an expanded League of 24 teams. As part of the "new" NFL, the Buffalo Bills would find success throughout the seventies and eighties behind the quarterbacking of legend Joe Ferguson and the vaunted offensive line play of the "Electric Company".
In 1983 the Buffalo Bills drafted future Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly and in 1987 they hired former CFL coach Marv Levy who led the team to an unprecedented four consecutive AFC Championships. Today's Bills are comprised of a nucleus of young talent. Led by running back Marshawn Lynch on offense and Pro Bowl Defensive End, Aaron Schobel on defense, the team thrives on speed and intensity. The 2008 season promises to be an exciting one and with another successful offseason the Bills are poised to make a run at an NFL Championship.
